From Meli Perea’s creative and constantly evolving universe is born “Suelta”, the new single alongside the Mexican artist Pahua. The track crosses electro-tropical with champeta DNA: kick and snare up front, a very danceable groove and brass (trumpet, sax) that slide over light guitars. Both artists sing about letting go of attachment and gaining freedom in a luminous anthem designed for the dancefloor and the beach.
Present beat, contagious vocal hook and a pulse that invites you to move from the first bar. This vibrant energy fits with the deep meaning of the song, as Meli Perea herself explains: “‘Suelta’ invites us not to cling to what weighs us down. We are changing songs, and when we hold on to people or ideas, we are left without space to breathe. Sometimes we fill ourselves with things and what we need is to release so that the energy can flow again. It is an invitation to be more with ourselves, to let out what no longer serves and to open windows so that new air can come in.” The lyrics move precisely in this terrain: releasing, ventilating, renewing. A song that dances and, at the same time, heals.
The presence of Pahua —a prominent figure in Latin American electronic music, a member of the Latin Recording Academy and part of a project that has shone at festivals such as Bahidorá, EDC Mexico or Pa’l Norte, in addition to participating in the compilation Arrullos Mexicanos Vol. 1, nominated for a Latin Grammy— turns this collaboration into a significant step to amplify the visibility of Meli Perea. Their union connects Meli’s universe with an international scene in full expansion, opening doors to new audiences and consolidating her growth in alt-latino and roots-based electronic music.
“Suelta” was released on December 11.
