Rudymentari is a musical project born in Menorca that understands music not only as an artistic expression, but as a real tool for social transformation. The name of the project, as well as its language and much of its thematic focus, draw directly from the island’s roots, which become the starting point for a discourse with a global outlook. Created in early 2019 by producer King Siva, Rudymentari shares its life between Menorca and the city, establishing a constant bridge between territory, the streets and the urban scene.
From its beginnings, the project has had a clear political and cultural vocation, building a critical discourse towards the capitalist system and leaning on values such as self-management, mutual aid and direct action. Musically, Rudymentari is deeply rooted in the Jamaican tradition, especially in the styles “Roots”, “Rocksteady” and “2 Tone”, while also embracing “RudeBoy” and “Sound System” culture as spaces of gathering, resistance and community. Far from exotification or superficial imitation, the project aims to actively contribute to the relevance of these cultures, adapting them to the current social and political context.
In this new single “Què volen”, a preview of their upcoming album, Rudymentari takes a step forward both in its discourse and in the emotional weight of its universe. The song focuses on one of the most serious social crises of recent times: access to housing and the direct consequences of real estate speculation. Through a clear and concrete narrative, the track places us in front of an attempted eviction, turning this scene into a reflection of a structural problem that affects thousands of families.
Sustained by a slow, deep and powerful rhythm in the purest “Roots” style, the song builds an atmosphere of tension and resistance that accompanies the story. The production bets on the weight of the groove and the forcefulness of the message, leaving space for the lyrics to take center stage. With a tone charged with emotion and truth, Rudymentari gives voice to the daily struggle against the violence of neoliberalism, placing dignity, community and the ability to resist collectively at the core.
The track culminates in a heartfelt tribute to the iconic voice of Maria del Mar Bonet, establishing a bridge between generations and territories. This reference not only reinforces the Mediterranean and island roots of the project, but also connects different historical moments of socially engaged songwriting, uniting voices and denunciations in a single cry. The result is a piece that transcends the musical sphere to become a political and cultural statement.
