Following the release of “He tornat” and “Billar”, Aina Koda presents “La gata”, a new EP that takes rap as its starting point while exploring a wide range of sounds, from Jersey Club and drumless to pop and boom bap. The project brings together social commentary, vulnerability, humour and artistic self-assertion through different snapshots of everyday life.
Made up of Aina Nogueroles (vocals and lyrics) and Adam González (producer and DJ), Aina Koda has built its sound around rap and music in Valencian, while constantly opening up to other genres. The project has received recognition including the TresDeu Award for Best Musical Release, the Ovidi Award for Breakthrough Artist, and a place among the winning acts of Sona9. In 2023, the duo released “Percal”, their debut album, through Guspira Records.
“La gata” continues this spirit of experimentation. The first two singles already revealed two different sides of the project: “He tornat” blended trap with jungle touches in a track about rediscovering the desire to write and create, while “Billar” embraced a more electronic and danceable sound to tell a story of seduction and connection during a night out.
The rest of the EP expands on this musical journey. “Si tu no estàs” sets Jersey Club production against lyrics about emotional dependency; “Sensacions” blends rap and pop to explore loneliness, identity and music as a place of refuge; while “Les sobres no se tiren”, built around a drumless production, addresses financial insecurity, impostor syndrome and the challenges of finding your way between music, journalism and increasingly expensive housing.
The title track, “La gata”, brings things back to a more classic rap foundation and serves as a clear statement of intent. Drawing on boom bap, Aina Koda champions a form of rap driven by lyrics, ideas and the need to have something to say.
The title also captures the spirit of the EP. The cat is a figure Aina Koda identifies with and one that has become part of the project’s visual identity, but it also represents the different sides that coexist throughout these songs: calm and instinct, vulnerability and strength, humour and social commentary.
“La gata” is now available on all digital platforms via Guspira Records.
