El Pony Pisador releases “Gran Manual per Identificar Ocells,” the first preview of their upcoming studio album titled OCELLS. In this song, they introduce the theme of the album, which, in addition to being a common humorous resource on the internet, has been one of the first ideas that led them to make an album about birds.
Drawing references from the children’s songbook like “Joan Petit” or “Rattlin’ Bog,” they present a song where they explain, “we wanted to make an approach designed for El Pony Menut and create a song that has absurd humor and at the same time is friendly for children.”
Musically, El Pony Pisador details, “we have combined resources from barbershop music (with a reference to Ringmasters’ “Notre Dame Medley,” one of the best barbershop performances in recent years), with a combination of bluegrass, where the use of the washboard stands out, as well as the mickeymousing resource in the arrangement of violin and flute.”
All of this evokes an imaginary of the 20th-century United States, with large musicals and classic animated films. That’s why they decided to capture this spirit in the music video, where they play with the idea of representing a school play with Broadway aesthetics. “We have worked with students from the Memory school and Alba Galimany, a patron and collaborator of the group for a long time as a choreographer, as well as with Goyo Arias and Alicia Jansen for the set design at the La Flor de la Palma theater in Teià, Mirna Root in charge of makeup, and the already classic Adrià Gonzàlez from the Pintamones studio to record and edit the video. Despite the childish appearance, it is the music video where we have had the most qualified personnel to work and our most professional commitment.”
