El Pony Pisador release “Xup Xup”, the second preview of their upcoming album “Vatua l’Olla!”. It is a project within “El Pony Menut”, a piece that plays with musical language and narrative to turn the song into a recipe that explains itself. The track focuses on the interplay between form and content, using humor and imagination as tools to build its own musical narrative.
The idea draws from classic references such as the sonnet “Un soneto me manda hacer Violante” by Lope de Vega, works by Les Luthiers, or classic barbershop, as well as more popular examples where lyrics and music mirror each other, like “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen or “Corazón Oxidado” by Fito y Fitipaldis. In all these cases, music becomes part of the story itself, a device that “Xup Xup” brings into its own territory with humor and a clear educational spirit.
The narrative starting point of the song is the kitchen. From a visual anecdote—old photos of the band in which Adrià appeared dressed as a chef—El Pony Pisador decided to turn the piece into a recipe for making a song. Musically, the track opens with a barbershop-flavored introduction and evolves into classic swing, a style often associated with culinary imagery and popular cooking.
The sound of “Xup Xup” draws both from musical references such as Louis Armstrong or Jelly Roll Morton and from the audiovisual imagery of the kitchen, with influences ranging from classic scenes of Astérix y Obélix or “Les Tres Bessones” to the film “Ratatouille”. To reinforce this sound, the track features the collaboration of Pablo Martín on trombone and Roger (South Side Stompers) on clarinet, adding a clear dixieland accent to the whole.
The music video was filmed in Santa Eugènia de Berga, where chef Jordi Arumí once again opened the doors of his home to the band. A regular collaborator of the group, he is already known for his appearance in the video for “Jetpack Jordi”. The setting enhances the domestic and narrative character of the song, turning the kitchen into a musical stage.
With “Xup Xup”, El Pony Pisador continues to develop the universe of “Vatua l’Olla!”, an album that combines roots music, humor, and educational elements, and that understands the song as a space for play.
