Microbio, a recognized member of Lágrimas de Sangre and a prominent voice in combative rap, presents his latest solo work “HUMO SAPIENS” (Guspira Records 2023). This album, consisting of ten songs, is a plea against pseudoscience, anti-science attitudes, misinformation, and the proliferation of charlatans in today’s society. These themes become an integral part of his political discourse, highlighting his commitment to social awareness through his songs.
Religion and mysticism come together in a reimagined Lord’s Prayer that opens the way for this new album with “No te va a gustar,” produced by Dubztom, challenging the limitations of the so-called “simulation.” It is followed by “La mierda que nos gusta más,” a rhythmic ode to Rap where he also addresses political criticism, reflecting Microbio’s characteristic insight and social commitment.
Much grittier are “Culpa Tuya” with Danee Doble E and “No me hables,” which was the first preview of the album. These challenging songs encapsulate the essence of the album: hard and dry rap with clear ideas, infused with Microbio’s lyrical skill along with the production of Danee Doble E and Hasha.
“I have decided” represents a change in attitude towards a more optimistic and positive vision. With a fusion of Reggae rhythms and featuring rapper Montserrap, it showcases the individual will to seek change to achieve freedom and authenticity. At the same time, “Por ensayo y error” exposes the empty messages received by society, while “Limpiando” stands out as one of the most purely rap songs on the album, with a catchy chorus over a boombap beat from the producers of Sample Corp.
In the final stretch, Microbio presents his most critical and biting side to date with “La balacera,” where he launches sharp bars discussing going beyond spiritual facades used to justify actions. It is worth highlighting “Round one (Genkidama)”, positioned as one of the most direct and powerful tracks on the album, a true face-to-face confrontation with top-notch hardcore Rap rhymes. The work culminates with “El dinero piensa,” produced by Willow VSound, a fusion of Rock and electronic rhythms that underscores the album’s critical social message, including a quote from the humor program “La Ruina” that highlights the anti-capitalist message and the importance of distancing oneself from derogatory discourses.
Microbio, along with producers Danee Doble E and Hasha, members of the Sample Corp collective, releases the album “HUMO SAPIENS”. This fourth installment by Microbio marks a milestone in the Barcelona MC’s career, solidifying his position as a reference in combative rap, maintaining his innate commitment to lyrical honesty and social denunciation.
