Sobre Mi Gata is a project born in 2022 in Vallcarca that blends electro-cumbia, dub, drum & bass and mutant electronics. Their debut Calor del colapso (2023) already explored dance and critique in times of collapse, with ’90s synths, reggae basslines and EDM energy. With Un món sense humanes (2024), the group introduced their first songs in Catalan and imagined a posthuman future to rethink privilege and ways of seeing the world. Their sound continues to expand between techno, bachata-dub and electro-merengue, maintaining a signature of party with conscience.
In a context where music becomes both refuge and collective loudspeaker, “Murs d’Altaveus” opens the path to the group’s next release by focusing on the community power of sound as a space of resistance and transformation. Inspired by sound system culture, the song reivindicates self-managed parties, without stages and rooted in the street, where bass frequencies cut through the neighborhood and music becomes a shared experience. Here, the project consolidates its own sonic language, where emotional electronics, dub effects, rap and poetry intertwine naturally.
The single, in A minor and at 80 BPM, moves forward with steady determination over a dominant sub-bass, a kick drum that sets the direction and an enveloping atmosphere that breathes movement. The production is built like a vibrating wall: a handmade wall of wood and low frequencies that does not divide but unites, connecting directly with the DIY (Do It Yourself) spirit of dub.
The lyrics unfold a clear central metaphor: the only walls worth building are the ones that make us dance. “The walls you see are sounding — they’re not stone, they’re speakers,” the group sings, condensing the essence of the track into a direct and powerful image. Against borders, bars and cages, “the only walls that make us dance are those of sound, of music”: speakers become shield and engine, tools to cross limits and transform weight into shared energy. Between images of flying without wings, falling and trying again, Murs d’Altaveus is a song about the impulse that arises when the world pushes back — you don’t need to have everything figured out, you just need to dare to move.
The music video, shot by Brainthunder in collaboration with the collective Kapara Sound — the Vallcarca neighborhood sound system — shows the preparation of a dub party at the Joan Salas viewpoint (Park Güell) and a live performance by SMG. A clear statement of intent: to make their music sound on sound systems across the country. That’s where you’ll also find them throughout 2026.
